Black Sunflower Seed Feeder Design
/Standard thistle feeder modification.
This type feeder hangs from a pole off my back deck or could be used hanging from a tree branch.
Birds learn to hover and hang to get the seeds.
Advantages:
1. Conserves feed. Birds feeding tend to drop less seed to the ground.
2. Blackbirds will not feed since they and thus far haven't learned the hover/hang technique.
3. Adds deterrence to squirrels getting to the seed. It sure is enjoyable watching them try to figure it out.
4. Provides entertainment and photo opportunities watching the birds feeding.
Modify a thistle feeder by removing perches and drilling 7/16 inch diameter holes to accommodate black sunflower seeds.
Hang feeder on a 24" long wire over edge of deck or tree limb. Funnels added for squirrel proofing.
